Who Is Brene Brown?

I recently watch two TED presentations. A week later, they are still on my mind. I am beginning to act on what I learned. It is time for me to put away some old ways.

This is what I observed:

  • Brene Brown is a brilliant presenter
  • Shame is hard on you.
  • Guilt is about what you have done and shame is about who you are
  • Guilt is not correlated with depression but shame is
  • Vulnerability is the key to creativity.
  • Vulnerability is not the same thing as weakness.
  • And more.

There are two videos. I watched the 2012 presentation first but I don’t think it will matter which order you choose. Watch them here – One from 2010 and one from 2012. They are each less than 20 minutes.

Make notes as you go or you will be like me and watch them again to make sure you you caught it all. Her results are far enough off the normal playing field that it almost does not make sense for a while, then the insight.

It is not my habit to tell people what they MUST do, but for these, I make an exception. Watch them both. Your life will be the better for it.

  1. Thank you, Don, for expanding my TED experience with Dr. Brown’s talks. More important that her findings is the process she encourages us to follow to open our minds and hearts to self-awareness. I feel your messages all have some great value to me and others you touch. Keep them up. Norman
