I Have Hope For The Future.

One of the reasons is Ananya Mukherjee who is pursuing a masters degree in science at The University of Calcutta.  You can visit her blog here.  It is sometimes brilliantly creative.

A recent one 3 Ways Thermodynamics Helps Us In Being Creative or Productive helped me understand more about life and planning.  Her thesis is that we are all connected to everything in our system and there are certain things that happen because of that.  Just like thermodynamic systems.  Some takeaways from her thought.

  • It is impossible to produce without mental stimulation/ interaction with our surrounds
  • We ( an isolated system) sometimes tend to be moving towards a state of equilibrium with our own system which negates any necessity to be innovative or creative or even to do work.
  • trying to attain equilibrium with our surroundings takes up a lot of time, energy and other resources,  ……   instead of trying to MICROMANAGE, we can delegate

Along her line of thought I have some other analogies.

Thermodynamic law of conservation of energy.  Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it merely changes it form.  In life we have the law of conservation of problem.  Problems merely change their form.  Poor people who become rich have different problems but they still have problems.

Thermodynamic law that equilibrium is achieved at the highest value of entropy. (disorder)  In life, the law is that there is no rest for the wicked nor for the poorly organized.

Thermodynamic law that at a temperature of absolute zero, entropy disappears.  In our world, we can say that the only perfectly adjusted people are dead.

In thermodynamics, if two systems are each in equilibrium with a third they are in equilibrium with each other.  The final equilibrium level will be equal to the one with the greatest disorder because you cannot reverse entropy.   In life, introducing more people into your system increases disorder.  You may have already noticed that with infants and  teenagers.

For some time, I have been trying to see a way to say these things.  Thanks for the idea Ananya.

  1. Pierre Trudeau seemed to believe that. And he has indeed since then proceeded to become perfectly adjusted.
There are few new ideas, but from time to time we do stumble upon fresh commentaries on the way things always have been.
I first read about all that in Ecclesiastes. It’s comforting to find that others have independently made similar observations from different viewpoints.

  2. Reblogged this on The IDEA Bucket and commented:
Few more analogies that can be drawn from Thermodynamics that are relevant to everyday life and situations. Thank you Don for this wonderful article..
