More on Whiskey

Last week I published a blog that attributed a quote about whiskey to Winston Churchill.  As it turns out reader Tim O’Brien of the Private Risk Advisor and his friend Don Batchelor have found that it is not a Churchill quote at all.  Rather it is by Judge Noah “Soggy” Sweat in a speech to the Mississippi legislature in 1953.  It has come to be known as the “If By Whiskey” speech.

They sent me a very interesting link that includes 24 other observations on whiskey. 25 Quotes About Whiskey from the Famous Drinkers Who Loved It Best

I thought this one by Johny Carson was interesting.

“Happiness is having a rare steak, a bottle of whiskey, and a dog to eat the rare steak.”

The quotes make you think people who enjoy whiskey have a different outlook on life than many of the rest of us.

Thank Tim and Don.  Your efforts are appreciated.

I’ve noticed that all drug addicts have a different outlook, all of which begins with justifying their drug of choice and trivializing its effect.
And no matter how you dress it up, alcohol is a drug. By far the most destructive drug in our civilization. The fact that government has found a way to profit from it does not make the drug better, it makes the government worse.
