Dream With A Bias To Action

I recently published an article Start Planning In The Right Place that deals with the structure and process of planning.  As with many things, the order of how we learn things matters and since it published, I came upon a Joel Barker quote that summarizes the reason for doing it the way that works.

Vision without action is merely a dream.

Action without vision just passes the time.

Vision with action can change the world

If you start with tactics you are passing time.  Probably expensively and with no real expectation of getting anywhere useful.  You cannot start with tactics and expect a good outcome.

Vision matters.  If you don’t act on it, it doesn’t make a difference.  A dream.  Visions are fun though, just like dreams, but you can’t take them to the grocery store.

Vision coupled with action gets you where you need to be.  Action is three-part.  Decide on a method, implement it and check back to see if it is working and still fits your vision and the real world.

The plan you generate in the beginning will never survive.  Review and revision matters and it is an ongoing process.  Particular plans are not important but the process of planning is.

Define a purpose that suits you.  Select methods that could work and you can afford.  Execute the methods.  Check back and improve, or congratulate yourself for interim success.

Organized common sense works.
