Negotiating Skills

Skill in negotiating is a value to everyone.

Like getting teenagers to help around the house, or younger ones to clean up their toys, or go to bed. Everything in life benefits from better technique. Negotiating is not an exception.

Hostage negotiation situations are likely outside your experience.

Nonetheless, the technique looks shockingly similar to what effective sales people use. Everyone, (bosses, parents) is selling something or an idea or a need for action.

Hostage negotiation is more comprehensive, but similar.

Listen. Be careful of tone and body language. Ask for clarification. Validate feelings. Offer choices. Suggest a decision.

Learn the skills.

Most are obvious. Connecting them is just common sense.
