I came upon this thought recently.
“You deserve the treatment you permit.”
You teach people how to treat you. Often in unconscious ways. So, as always, the fault is your own. Anything you put up with will continue. Even get worth.
Being tolerant is often to your short term advantage and long term detriment.
Notice what offends you. Sometimes you seem to win by tolerating. Fixing a mistake an employee made or tidying up after your children. The job is done correctly and quickly. Usually done in less time than it would take to instruct and followup.
If you notice yourself tolerating something, stop and think.
Do you want to tolerate it forever.
If not doing something, be sure to price the cost of toleration. Could be money or time. Could be stress and anxiety. Maybe aybe just a feeling of malaise.
You get less of things you push back on and more of the things you do not. If you never push back, eventually you will have time for nothing but the troubles.
I help business owners, professionals, and others understand and manage risk and other financial issues. To help them achieve their goals, I use tax efficiencies and design advantages to acquire more efficient income and larger, more liquid estates.
In previous careers, I have been a partner in a large, international public accounting firm, CEO of a software start-up, a partner in an energy management system importer, and briefly in the restaurant business.
